Good and bad
“ The story of my Life's Journey.”
My background.
My name is Vinayak Panse
Growing up in Pune, known as Oxford of the East, I never knew what I wanted to do for a Career. After getting the standard 10th results I was planning to pursue Science, why – because all my friends were going for science, I never really gave any thought about Why Science and why not any other stream. Then my head-teacher suggested Commerce, get the degree and jobs in banking would be an easy thing. And I thought that's it! I would study Commerce, get a job in any Bank, life’s set! And so that's what I did, but never applied and worked in any Bank, as a bank employee.
Instead, I started my work with a firm of Chartered Accountants and thereafter as an Accountant with Industrial Company. Later on, I started my own business. My first career change, from an employee to employer. In today’s terminology I became Entrepreneur. Things didn’t go well and I had to wind up my business. The main reason which I now know is that - entrepreneurship is for everyone but everyone is not fit for it. Though I was enjoying my work, and was good at it, it was not enough to run the show. Success in business takes time; On top of my work expertise, I was not well-equipped with the skills like - managing employees, interacting with clients, dealing with banks, managing cash flow, handle suppliers, etc.
It took me many years to find anything else I was interested in doing.
In the meantime, to pay my bills, I started working in Insurance sector (sales & training), my second career change, where I had achieved a degree of success but deep down I knew that something was missing. Here, I did some research; read some books, discussed with seniors, did some exercises to find out my talents & my skills. Two quotes from a book by Shakti Gawain I read, really transformed my way of looking at life –
"Every moment of your life is infinitely creative and the universe is endlessly bountiful. Just put forth a clear enough request, and everything your heart truly desires must come to you."
The desire, the need to be satisfied is what drives us to create something extraordinary.
"Let us imagine that life is a river. Most people are clinging to the bank, afraid to let go and risk being carried along by the current of the river. At a certain point, each of us must be willing to simply let go, and trust the river to carry us along safely. At this point, we learn to go with the flow — and it feels wonderful. Once we have become accustomed to being in the flow of the river, we can begin to look ahead and guide our course onward, deciding where the course looks best, steering the way around boulders and snags, and choosing which of the many channels and branches of the river we prefer to follow, all the while still going with the flow".
Simultaneously, I kept looking for work I would love, that would use my talents & my skills, my life’s purpose, where I would feel happy and in the right place. Then I got the chance to work in the recruitment sector, my third career change. Things started looking much better. I got the job where I feel deeply connected, able to use my talents & my skills, I was near to my life’s purpose, I was feeling happy, and I was in the right place.
During this time I met my mentor, my career coach Dr. Shreeram Geet a well know name in career guidance for the last 25 years. In the first meeting with him, it was not for career guidance but to get more information about – How to become Career Advisor? He asked me to narrate my career journey till date. So I told him everything what I have written above and much more. His first sentence after hearing my story was – Looking at your varied career profile, according to me you are a perfect fit for the role of Career Guidance.
This is how my journey in Career advice/coaching/ guidance started;
I found my life’s purpose.
